Quick Advice Surgeries

Sometimes a short conversation with someone outside your organisation can clarify an issue quickly.

Often, people want to ‘pick my brain’ with some quick advice about their organisation.

To make this easier, I’ve set up a quick and easy way to book these sessions.

I also offer mentoring sessions, and of course am always happy to have exploratory conversations about consultancy work, or meet to explore shared issues of interest.

‘Pick my brain’: 30 mins

I offer 30 minute advice sessions for charity leaders, funders, and social organisations who would like an experienced outside perspective on a specific question or topic. Think of this like a SWAT team intervention. Scan the area, think about options, then decide what next. With less gunfire, hopefully.

These sessions work best when you have a clear issue you would like to think through - for example around strategy, fundraising, governance, organisational development, or the wider funding and policy environment.

Lots of things that feel complicated at first can be clarified quite quickly once you have an experienced outside perspective. And often, simple questions can have relatively simple answers.

Advice sessions are short, focused conversations.

Typically we will:

  • clarify the issue or decision you are facing

  • explore possible approaches or options

  • identify some practical next steps

Sometimes a short discussion is all that’s needed to clarify things. In other cases the conversation may highlight areas where more structured work would be helpful.

There’s no expectation that a session will lead to further consultancy. It’s a no-strings chat.

However, if you wanted to then discuss further support, we can talk about how that might look afterwards.

Who these sessions are for

These conversations are usually most useful for:

  • charity chief executives and senior staff

  • trustees or board members

  • funders or sector organisations

  • organisations exploring a specific strategic or organisational question

They’re for specific questions rather than general exploratory conversations.

What do I need to do in advance?

Have a think about how you want to use the time, but don’t worry if you’re slightly unfocused. That’s what I’m here to help with.

And then - put the kettle on….
